How to Actually Check This Yourself
pH is measured on a 0-14 scale, with 7 being neutral — anything below is acidic, anything above is alkaline. Most municipal tap water in the U.S. sits somewhere in the 6.5-8.5 range depending on the source, while properly-mineralized alkaline water typically lands in the 8-9.5 range. You can get a rough read with inexpensive pH test strips from any hardware or pool supply store, though a full water quality report (like the free EWG lookup on our homepage) gives you a much more complete picture, including mineral content and hardness alongside pH.
Worth knowing: pH alone doesn't tell you whether water is well-mineralized or simply stripped-then-artificially-alkalized. Some products raise pH using additives without restoring the actual calcium, magnesium, and potassium that give water its natural taste and mineral balance — which is the distinction that actually matters if taste and mineral content are what you're after.
